“The 21st Bodrum Cup” International Wooden Yacht Regatta will be held between
20th-24th October, 2009. We would like to inform you with pleasure that this year the mayors of the municipalities will take part in the races with the yachts sponsored by the
municipalities. Everybody is so curious to know who is going to be the winner at the end.

Mehmet Kocadon, the Mayor of Bodrum, Mehmet Tire, the Mayor of Gümüşlük, Mehmet
Onur Şahbaz, the Mayor of Ortakent and Mustafa Erdogan the Director of Bodrum Mariner’s Association will compete in differant yachts giving their support to the sailing sports and they will be a model for gentlemanship.

The organisation will start on 20th of October, Tuesday with the public celebrations at the Iskele Square and will continue during the day. In the evening there will be a brifing, coctail prolounge, slideshow and concert (Group VIP) at the Bodrum Milta Marina.
“The 8th Bodrum Race Week” will also be mutually celebrated on this night.

The first race will start on 21st October, 2009 Wednesday as a “Neo Yapı-Engel &
Völkers, Bodrum-Gündogan Course” in front of the Kargı Island in Akyarlar where the
racers will enjoy the wind. The same night the racers will get a chance to relax at Sinan Erkoc’s concert in Gündogan.

“Begüm Yachting – Barka Yachts Course” between Gündogan and Didim D-Marin will be
held on 22nd October, Thursday and in the evening there will be a Fashion Show and Costume Contest and the night will continue with Dolapdere Big Gang’s concert.

“Arkın Pruva Yachts Course” between Didim and Gümüşlük will be held on 23rd October, Friday. The coctail will be sponsored by Gusta Restaurant and Group VIP will be on stage
in the following hours.

After completing the “Tursab Course” all the yachts will return to Bodrum on 24th October, Saturday and the Bodrum Regatta will be completed. The same night coctail and prizegiving ceramony will be held at the Club Halikarnas and the successful racers
will be awarded with the prizes supported by the sponsors. Participants will celebrate the event enjoying the Rok Band concert.

Sailors of Turkey and guests from abroad will meet 21st time in Bodrum to take part in The Bodrum Cup International Wooden Yacht Regatta.
The itinerary will include the bays Bodrum- Gündoğan- Didim- Gümüşlük and back to Bodrum.

The program will start with celebrations in the city center on 20th Oct and continue with the briefing held in Milta Bodrum Marina, cocktail, slide shows and concert from Group VIP.

21st Oct, Wednesday, in Neo Yapı-Engel & Völkers course, participants will race from Bodrum to Gündoğan, starting from Akyarlar Kargı Island, afterwards beach party and concert of Sinan Erkoç.

22 Oct, Thursday, in Begüm Yachting- Barka Yachts course, itinerary starts in Gündoğan and ends in Didim D-Marin, in the night there will be the dressing contest and Dolapdere Big Gang concert.

23 Oct, Friday in Arkın Pruva Yachts course, yachts will race from Didim to Gümüşlük. cocktail will be held in Gusta Restaurant, then the Group VIP will get on stage.

Return to Bodrum on 24th Oct, Saturday. The Bodrum Cup will end with Tursab course, starting from Gumusluk, ending in Bodrum. The very same evening the prizegiving ceremony will be in Halikarnas the Club, awarding the most successful yachts in Traditional Wooden Class, Classic Yachts class and non wooden yachts class.

Turkey welcomes Autumn with the Bodrum Cup 21st
International Wooden Yacht Regatta, October 20 – 24, 2009

One of Turkey's most anticipated annual sporting events is coming up, October 20 - 24 2009. The International Bodrum Cup celebrates the end of the cruising season every October and is unique in that only traditional and classic wooden yachts, or ‘gulets’, are permitted to compete in the main regatta. Gulets have been built by hand in the region of Bodrum for at least 2000 years.  Bodrum is situated on the southernwestern Aegean coast.

Organized by the ERA Bodrum Sailing Club, the first regatta was held in 1989. While the competition is open only to traditional and classic wooden yachts, non-wooden vessels are also accepted as non-competing guests. Adding to the excitement of competition, all yachts anchor together for festive evenings.   In keeping with traditional Turkish hospitality, there is such an array of prizes that few competitors come home empty-handed! 

Often called “Turkey’s St. Tropez,” Bodrum lives up to its name! The Bodrum peninsula is a colorful tableau of white-washed stucco homes, purple bougainvilleas, orange groves and olive-green hillsides set against a dramatic backdrop of craggy rock peaks.  It’s the Aegean darling of the jet-set with glamorous yachts dotting the harbor and modern luxury villas on hillsides overlooking the sea. With an international flavor and restaurants, boutique hotels and entertainment of the highest class, Bodrum attracts a posh crowd.  Bodrum is also famous for having one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, The Mausoleum. 

For centuries, famous people have graced Bodrum with their presence. Even Marcus Antonius and Cleopatra used to frequent Bodrum on their romantic voyages to Rome, and today it is a vacation spot for A-List celebrities such as Tom Hanks, Beyonce Knowles, Sting, Elizabeth Hurley, and Nicole Kidman.
